The Green Aisle
This morning I was on a run for coffee and doughnuts and I heard something interesting on my favorite morning radio show. What I heard was unbelievable and I thought I should write something about it and see what your thoughts are on it. Do you remember Percy from The Green Mile? If not he was the pissy, shitty little man who smashes the mouse and tells the guy that there is no mouse heaven. In the end he ends up murdering the pedophile and goes insane. A perfect ending for such a jerk of a character. Well it appears that he has a new role, in real life that is, as a husband. Congrats on the marriage but there is something odd about this. His blushing bride is rather young and when I say young, I mean statutory rape young. Doug Hutchison (Percy) married a 16 year old named Courtney Stodden. As you can see from the picture she doesn't look like she's 16 but she is in fact that age. In Las Vegas the legal marrying age is 18, however, with parental consent the age drops to 16.
So what do you think about this marriage? Do you think it's real or fake? The couple insists that they are in love and her parents say that the 51 year old is wonderful but can there be more to this? I have heard that back in the day it was perfectly legal and normal for an older man to marry a teenager but eventually society deemed it out of the norm and taboo. What happened back then that made it cool and now it's wrong? I know it sounds as though I might be behind this guy but I'm not. There is no amount of money that I would except to let my 16 year old daughter marry an older man. Had she been of age I don't think it would matter at all and I wouldn't be typing this post. Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe they are happily married but something just seems off. Maybe he's the victim here and not her. He does seem rather punchy and they could all be taking him for what he has. I don't know how true any of it could be but the couple believes that love is ageless so are they right?
