Since 2013, my first national NENA conference, big things have happened. Every conference since has brought forth education, networking, and opportunity. It has been my dream to give back and offer a way to send a 9-1-1 dispatch professional to a national conference. 2016 marked the first time that, with the help of my all-time supporter INdigital, I could offer the Within the Trenches Continuing Education Scholarship. 9-1-1 professionals from all over have applied and shared their dispatch experience. Every single person has a compelling story to tell and if it were up to me, I would send them all.

I am proud to announce the recipient of the 2019 Within the Trenches Continuing Education Scholarship goes to Jordan Webb, Lead Communications Officer at Henderson County E911 Center out of Kentucky. Jordan has been a Communications Officer for almost six years but started out in the field giving her a well-rounded look at public safety. Her story comes with heartache and tragedy but most of all, triumph. After being involved in an accident that took her away from life on the fire department and rescue, she saw a job posting for a Communications Officer. She was eager to learn that aspect of public safety.

“I wanted to help others every day, on their worst day, because I fully knew what it might be like,” she explained in her essay for this scholarship. She goes on to say that, “Every day we take calls that involve life threatening situations, where it is our duty to save that person, ensuring their safety until responders arrive.” When asked about the benefits of attending a conference like the national NENA event, Jordan responded by saying, “I am always encouraged by the classes and enjoy bettering myself as a leader in my center and my community. I want to better myself as a Communications Officer to be the best initial source of help to everyone whom I have contact with.”

Jordan will be attending the 2019 NENA conference in Orlando, Florida this June, as well as, taking part in the Run for 9-1-1 Charity 5k as a member of Team #IAM911. If you see her at the conference or online, make sure to say hello and congratulate her.
