Over the last few weeks, two of the states for which we provide Core Services had some big things happen. The state of Alabama now has all of its PSAPs on the Alabama Next-Generation Emergency Network. In Indiana, all PSAPs have been upgraded to Texty 17.3. Both of these events help telecommunicators help their callers and communities.

ANGEN being built to all PSAPs in Alabama means that all calls are now routed over the ESInet instead of legacy selective routers. Additionally, PSAPs in Alabama will benefit from the following:

  • increased access to 911 for all communities

  • improved disaster and recovery options for when dealing with natural and human-made disasters

  • enhanced call routing

  • sharing of data among PSAPs across jurisdictional lines, sometimes even state lines.

“In 2020 alone, we witnessed firsthand the positive impacts of an Emergency Services IP network. Even prior to today’s completion of the buildout, we observed its resiliency and redundancy through more than one hurricane, the Nashville bombings on Christmas Day, a global pandemic, and numerous other weather events,” said Leah Missildine Executive Director of the Alabama State 9-1-1 Board.*

In Indiana, all 92 counties recently received a text-for-9-1-1 upgrade and now utilize INdigital’s Texty 17.3 platform. Features such as buttons for Rebid, Enhanced Location, and the ability to hide the map were added in this Texty software upgrade. Additionally, this change prepared the platform to add language translation which will be available on a later update. Telecommunicators will also be able to change between day and night mood depending on which they prefer. Since telecommunicators’ screens are at varying distances, they can also change the size of the text to better view the Texty messages.

A big thank you to the IN911 office and all of the  911 directors for helping with the transition and preparing the PSAP for this critical update.

What happened in Alabama and Indiana is just a piece of the puzzle when we look at Next Generation 911. Our goal has always been and will continue to be to improve the 911 industry for you and your callers and do it by going above and beyond the current standards.
